Our Story

Doug and Lindsay Harold

We are starting a homestead in the beautiful mountains of Craig County, Virginia. Our first endeavor is raising laying hens. We bought 25 Rhode Island Red and 25 Black Australorp chicks, which were hatched in May 31, 2023. They began laying eggs in November.

With 8.5 acres of land, our chickens are truly pastured, able to eat grass and insects outside in the sunshine and lay healthy eggs full of nutrients. We will be posting updates on the chicks, the building of the coop, and plenty of pictures so that you can see for yourself the quality of the food we offer and follow our journey of building a homestead. You can also follow our Facebook page.

We also homeschool our 5 children. Farm life is part of their education. They help with feeding the chickens and collecting eggs. Being outside and caring for animals is great experience for them, and they enjoy it.

We also have plans to expand in the coming months and years to include goats, pigs, honey bees, berry bushes, and many natural and homemade products such as fresh pork, raw honey, soap, lotion, lip balm, jams and jellies, pies, craft items, and more. We will be opening a storefront over the next year or two at our farm. Be sure to stay tuned for more information.
